The Edmonton Investers Group once again makes headlines by turning down the latest offer from the Rexall giant. Apparently due to an inability to come to an agreement that keeps the team in Edmonton, and the funding issue for a new arena.
Katz’s latest bid to buy Oilers rejected
This is getting real old. Who’s bluffing who? Expecting him to commit to keeping the team in Edmonton is understandable, if based on public interest, but to have him commit, in writing, that he will provide some $100 million for a new arena is just bad business. Everything about this guy screams “GOOD DEAL”. He is the missing piece that could change this team for the better. The only people that have anything to worry about is the G.O.B. Club, AKA Oilers Alumni. No longer would Lowe, Mac T, and the rest of the boys be able to fell untouchable. They might have the ability to do a great job, but imagine how great they might be if their jobs were at stake. Extremely great.
I will note that this ownership group did all fans a great service and we all owe them for that but,with only one really good year of hockey under the EIG ownership, one has to wonder. Any time a group is involved in the decision making, it takes time, a long time, to make anything happen. One person can make a decision immediately. Katz has the cash, the personality, and the rocks to make top players around the league more attracted to this city.
It’s time for change. It’s a natural part of evolution.
